POSTERscotch

Hopscotch and Amplified Art are proud to present POSTERSCOTCH, a multi-day exhibition of work from some of North Carolina’s most acclaimed poster artists. After submitting entries for the poster design contest, I was honored to be selected as an official participating artist. The opening reception for the exhibition will be held from 7-10pm on Wednesday, September 7th, and the show will continue throughout the festival, coming to a close on Saturday, September 10th. My contribution is a tribute to Raleigh, City of Oaks, and is available to purchase for $20 as a 2-color limited edition screenprint. Please visit the Facebook event page for more details.

 

The Rosebuds and Friends Day Party

The lovely people at the Independent asked me to design a poster for the Saturday Day Party featuring The Rosebuds and Friends. The event will be held at Lincoln Theatre in Downtown Raleigh from 11am-6pm on Saturday, September 10th. The 2-color limited edition screenprint will be available to purchase for $20 on the day of the show. Did I mention the event is FREE?

 

The Hopscotch Hepcat

Bikes! Cats! Music! The Hopscotch Hepcat is a charity ride for SAFE Haven for Cats, a bike race coinciding with the last day of the Hopscotch Music Festival in downtown Raleigh. All proceeds from sales of the posters and t-shirts will be donated to the shelter to cover adoption fees for the cats. T-shirts and posters will be available to purchase on Saturday, September 10th, at Lincoln Theatre. It’s not too late to register to ride, so please sign up here and help some kitties in need! Actual posters and shirts will be printed in orange and metallic silver on charcoal gray!

But I’m so happy to say that I’m finally ready to submit my two designs for the Hopscotch and Amplified Art POSTERscotch contest.

I’ve been wanting to dabble in some illustration for a long time, and since I’ve been almost exclusively listening to Glee songs about friendship lately, I thought it would be fun to try to honor some of the great friends I’ve made since I moved to Raleigh. Looking forward to posting a look at my process for this one later this week! Also gotta give a huge shout out to Samuel Rhodes, No. 2 Stunna, who has helped me immensely with some of these drawings.

Since the first poster was so personal to me, and this is a contest after all, I also wanted to do something more minimal, accessible, and specific to Raleigh.

Hopscotch will be picking 10 finalists, and the public will vote for one winner to receive two VIP wristbands and a table for selling their prints. Stay tuned and cross your fingers!

The poster I’m designing is Raleigh-specific, so I wanted to honor some of the great friends I’ve made here and also try my hand at illustration. I haven’t drawn much since high school and Penn State, and since I began as a fine artist, I was really anxious to get away from realism and life drawing and see what I could do to capture what I thought were the most amusing or endearing qualities of some of my good pals. These are just scans of my drawings and will be digitized so soon!

Oh, and speaking of friendship, please listen to this. Lots of embarrassing, audible crying drawing friends and listening to songs about friendship. And I am NOT SCARED to tell you that.
